The world of ballet — for 180 students
On 13 May 2026, 180 students in Years 3 and 4 at Riga Hanzas Secondary School opened the door to the world of ballet.
The Latvian National Ballet Foundation, together with Riga Ballet School and Riga Hanzas Secondary School, delivered the educational concert lesson “Step into the World of Ballet”.
What did the children experience?
During the educational concert lesson, the children:
- learned what ballet is and what a ballet dancer’s daily life looks like;
- discovered the path to a career as a professional dancer;
- saw pointe shoes, ballet costumes and stage props;
- tried ballet positions themselves;
- watched two beautiful ballet performances.
For many children, this was their first encounter with ballet. Moments like these can spark a dream that may one day become a profession.
Ballet teaches discipline, posture, respect, musicality and the pursuit of excellence — values that last a lifetime. Our aim is to inspire children to discover Latvia’s ballet traditions and show them that they too can become part of this beautiful art form.
